From January 20 to 22, 2023, the first session of the Hispanic Youth Leadership Academy (HYLA) was held in Lima, Peru under the theme “Responding to our Social Context.” This first convocation invited young university students to consider the contextualization of HYLA in Peru with the support of the Methodist Church of Peru and the Wesleyan Theological Seminary (STW).

This space allowed Methodist university students from the north, center, and south of the country to explore their vocations, analyze their present national context, consider their leadership, and explore their identity as Methodists and Peruvians. Participants affirmed the importance of leadership formation, theological preparation, and consideration of pressing social issues as a way to prepare for a more transcendent service in different areas of society.
